powerlifting is not cheap

we need to talk about the goddamn money pit that powerlifting is.

seriously, i never expected that picking up heavy shit and putting it back down would end up costing me an arm and a leg?

let's start with the FIPL, the Italian Powerlifting Federation, the federation i am a member of and whose meets i participate in.
they charge you 50 euros annually for a membership and there is an additional 50 euro fee for every meet you want to get in.

it wouldn't be that big of a problem if the real villains of the story weren't actually the villains.
i am talking about powerlifting equipment companies.

some companies like to patent their technologies so other companies have no right to use them (unless the patent owner gives them explicit rights to) and then sell them at insanely high prices.

come on, i have seen 220 euros for a weightlifting belt! are you shitting me? the brand, shiny new SBD knee sleeves that cost 120 euros on the italian SBD reseller's site?
it's like they're trying to bankrupt me so i can squat a few more kilos.

you know what's more infuriating? i already briefly mentioned it above. some of the prices i mentioned are for the italian SBD reseller. yes.
that's right, my fellow italian powerlifters, we're probably getting screwed over even more than the rest of the world! are we all made of money for them or something?
newsflash: we're not all rolling in dough like you clearly are.

but let's not forget about all the other miscellaneous expenses that come with powerlifting: you've got your gym membership, supplement fees (if you take any) and god knows what else. every time you turn around, there is another hand in your pocket.

so, what could be the solution? i have no fucking clue! maybe we should just say "fuck it" and go back to lifting heavy boulders in our backyards like cavemen.

in conclusion: powerlifting is not only a badass sport that makes you feel like fucking superman, but it's also a financial black hole that sucks the life out of your wallet.

from entry fees to companies who think they are the Gucci of the powerlifting world, boasting equipment straight from the heavens that was handmade by Kratos himself and the other various expenses...

i can safely say i am going to go broke doing this sport.

but who cares, i am passionate about it and i will keep shelling money on it until i will have no arms or legs to lift with.
